Keith Haring

Attention all 4th grade students: The above artworks were created by the artist Keith Haring who we are currently studying for our next project. Haring created artworks that showed simple, cartoon like figures. Each picture shows rhythm by repeating simple lines around the figures to give the appearance of movement. Look at the images posted above and post a comment about what you like best about his artworks. All students that post a comment following these simple directions will receive 2 extra credit points toward their term 2 grade. 8 year old Landscape Painter

When we learn about artists in class, we have always learned about adult artists. The above paintings were created by a child. His name is Kieron Williamson and he is currently 8 years old. The painting directly above was painted when Kieron was only 6 years old and the top painting was part of a collection of 16 paintings which were sold in 14 minutes. Kieron made over $250,000 from selling those paintings. Kieron began painting at 5 years old and has since turned into a very sought after artist. Sharpie Artist!

Attention all students.....the first project all of you created this year for the square 1 fundraiser was colored using Sharpies. Imagine using the same medium to decorate a car. The above pictures are works of art created by artist Chris Dunlop. He uses industrial strength sharpies to decorate his cars and makes his designs up as he goes. He does not plan his ideas out ahead of time. Post a comment about your opinions on this type of art.

5th Grade Students

The 5th grade has been learning about the Surrealist artist Magritte. Magritte painted really unique 'dreamlike' paintings by combining two objects to make a new third object or placing objects in unusual environments. Look at the two paintings above by this artist and post whether you like or dislike his artwork and why.

Claude Monet

4th Grade Students

We have been talking about the artist Claude Monet in class for the last few weeks. Monet was an Impressionist artist that painted outdoor scenes. He uses quick, exciting brush strokes to capture light and shadow at different times of the day and during different seasons. Look at the paintings above and post how Monet showed light and shadow in each artwork.

Ugly Face Jugs

The above face jugs were created by potter Jim McDowell in Pennsylvania. The artist creates these amazingly unique jugs because he is inspired by the history and traditions of his ancestors. Face Jugs have no written history, so information on these forms was passed down through family members. The 4th grade students are creating their own Ugly Face Jugs for the next project in art. While viewing the above pictures, be sure to notice the interesting textures applied to each face, the unique forms applied to create the various features on each face and the expressions portrayed. Look at both pictures closely and tell me what you think about these interesting sculptures.

Amazing Micro Sculptor

Imagine creating a work of art in the head of a needle by carving a grain of sand and painting it by using a hair from a house fly. Willard Wigan does just that by creating realistic sculptures that need to be viewed through a microscope because they are too small to be seen with the naked eye. Amazing Street Artist!!!

Julian Beever is an unbelievable artist who draws flat images on pavement that look 3-dimensional. His pictures must be looked at from a certain point of view or the images will become completely distorted. Take a look at the pictures above and see if you can figure out which parts of the picture are real and which parts are drawn. Let me know what you think of Beever's art.

With Thanksgiving quickly approaching, I felt it necessary to share paintings about this special holiday created by American painters. The top painting was created by the artist Norman Rockwell during the early 1940's and the second painting was created by the artist Jean Louis Gerome Ferris in 1915. Which painting do you like better? Why do you prefer one over the other? Continue to check the site throughout the week as I will post more Thanksgiving paintings.

Warhol's Shoes

The 5th graders have been working hard on completing their Andy Warhol projects. Most students are finished with printing and are now working on coloring their shoes using different color families. Here are two examples of artworks created by Warhol having shoes as the subject. One artwork was created by painting ink, the other was created by using the process of silk screening.

How is your artwork similiar to the examples shown and how is your artwork different. Answer these questions in any post that you make.

The 5th grade has been learning about the Pop artist Andy Warhol. For those of you that are unfamiliar with Warhol, he created art about popular everyday things such as movie stars, supermarket products, comic book characters, etc. If you enjoyed learning about Andy Warhol and if you liked his art, then you may enjoy artwork by the artist Keith Haring. Extra Credit Assignment Due Friday, November 13th, 2009

Explore my new website by playing some games, reading posts, viewing provided links, etc., to recieve extra credit. Once you have spent some time looking at the site, you must make a post following the "How to Post" instructions on the left hand side of the website. Your comments should say something about what you learned or enjoyed on the website. This assignment is worth 2 extra credit points toward your final term 2 grade. Square 1 Update

Square 1 artwork has finally arrived!!! Students will receive their free stickers and order forms on Tuesday, November 3rd. All orders must be returned by Friday, November 13th. The holidays are approaching and your artwork printed on items can make excellent gifts for family and friends. Remember, the class with the best total sales will receive an ice cream party, so get your orders in as soon as possible.

Square 1 Fundraiser

Students have been working hard on completing their projects for the Square 1 Fundraiser. Projects have been graded and mailed into the company. We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of folders containing free stickers for all students with their artwork printed on the front and information on items available for purchase. All proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit the art department where supplies and materials will be purchased to further enhance our program.
